Celebrating the End of War on Gaza: A Rally in Nouakchott
In a heartfelt display of solidarity with Palestine, Nouakchott witnessed a significant rally organized by the National Union for Support to the Palestinian People. This event was held as a celebration following the ceasefire in Gaza, marking an end to a prolonged conflict that captured global attention.
The procession began at the Grand Mosque in Nouakchott’s heart and made its way to the United Nations offices in the city. It symbolized a unified stance against oppression and a call for peace and reconstruction in the war-torn region of Gaza. The General Secretary of the National Union, Sheikhani Beibeh, praised Moroccans for their relentless efforts over days, nights, and weeks, engaging in numerous activities and dialogues to support Palestine’s cause. He emphasized that this victory belongs not only to them but also to the Palestinian people who spared no effort or expense.
Sheikhani’s son highlighted the ongoing mission of rebuilding Gaza, urging continued financial contributions for its reconstruction into something even greater than before. This message resonated with many, including parliamentary representative Salih Wuld Hanan from the political parties in Mauritania. He acknowledged the resilience and bravery of all Palestinians - elders, youth, mothers, doctors, nurses, journalists - who faced what he described as one of humanity’s greatest challenges against overwhelming odds.
The situation was further aggravated by support for Israel from Western allies, including America. Wuld Hanan appealed for sustained financial aid to rebuild Gaza, emphasizing that every Mauritanian can contribute in their way towards this reconstruction effort.
Representing the Hamas movement in Mauritania, Dr. Muhammad Sabahi Abu Sqar, reiterated that Gaza’s victory and freedom were equally a triumph for the Mauritanian people. He underscored Mauritania’s unwavering support from the onset of the crisis through to its resolution. Highlighting an impending wave of volunteers ready to rebuild Gaza, either by foot or sea, Dr. Abu Sqar stressed the importance of continuing this support.
This rally in Nouakchott serves as a poignant reminder of global solidarity and shared humanity amidst conflict. It underscores not only the immediate need for reconstruction in Gaza but also the enduring spirit of resistance and resilience among Palestinians and their supporters worldwide.
