Mountain Parkway Tragedy: A Heart-Wrenching Collision Claims Two Lives
In the serene landscape of Wolfe County, Kentucky, a devastating incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when two vehicles collided head-on on the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway. The crash, which occurred near the 47-mile marker around 3:50 p.m., claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others critically injured.
The Kentucky State Police swiftly responded to the scene after receiving an urgent call from Wolfe County Dispatch. Initial investigations revealed that a minivan driven by a 58-year-old man from Flat Gap, Kentucky, veered across the centerline into the path of a Hyundai Elantra operated by a 32-year-old man hailing from Summerfield, Florida.
Tragically, Robbin Burchett, aged 56, a passenger in the minivan and resident of Paintsville, Kentucky, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Wolfe County Coroner Frank Porter confirmed her passing. The driver of the minivan, though shaken, was treated for minor injuries at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
The collision’s impact on the Elantra was severe as well. Katelyn Harmon, 27, from Salyersville, Kentucky, who was a passenger in the vehicle, also lost her life at the scene. The driver of the Elantra suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition at Morgan County ARH in West Liberty. Two young children were among those in his car: a nine-year-old girl with serious injuries is listed as critically injured, while a two-year-old boy sustained minor injuries but is now stable.
