“Brantford Author Unveils Children’s Book Trilogy on Ukrainian War”

In a heartrending exploration of resilience and hope amidst chaos, Brantford author Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch releases her second installment in a trilogy that delves into the harrowing experiences of young people during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This compelling series not only seeks to illuminate the stark realities faced by those caught in war but also aims to foster empathy and understanding among its readers, particularly the younger audience.

Skrypuch’s narrative journey began when she was approached by Scholastic to craft a trilogy soon after Russia initiated its incursion into Ukraine. Despite initial hesitance, she embraced this monumental task, pouring her soul into three novels over 17 months—writing an astonishing seven hours each day without pause. Her first book, “Kidnapped From Ukraine: Under Attack,” introduces twin sisters Dariia and Rada in the besieged city of Mariupol, thrusting them into a world where fear becomes a daily companion.

The sequel, “Kidnapped From Ukraine: Standoff,” shifts focus to Rada as she seeks refuge within the steel confines of Azovstal’s bunkers during an 86-day siege. The story unfolds with gripping intensity, capturing the relentless spirit of those striving for survival against all odds.

Skrypuch is celebrated as an internationally acclaimed writer whose work often navigates the turbulent waters of historical and contemporary conflicts through a lens accessible to young readers. Her commitment transcends mere storytelling; it’s a bridge connecting the lived experiences of Ukrainians with audiences worldwide, fostering a deep-rooted understanding that challenges misconceptions about the capacity of young minds.

Her books resonate deeply within communities torn apart by war, offering solace and recognition to those who have endured unimaginable hardships. For Skrypuch, writing these narratives is not just an artistic endeavor but a mission driven by humanity—to preserve the voices of survivors in a format that respects their privacy while vividly portraying their struggles.

In preparation for her book launch at Harmony Church in Brantford on October 9th, she emphasizes the importance of these stories. They serve as historical records, contemporary testimonies of courage and endurance. A portion of the book sales will benefit the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, underlining Skrypuch’s dedication to supporting Ukrainian causes.

Through her profound works, Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch invites readers into a world where every detail—from the weather to personal narratives—is meticulously woven into stories that are both historically accurate and intensely real. Her trilogy is more than fiction; it’s an ode to resilience, a call for empathy, and a testament to the enduring spirit of those who face adversity with unwavering strength.
